John Mulaney has revealed he has help maintaining his sobriety four years after kicking his drug addiction.
The funny man, 42, who poked fun at his stint in rehab during his recent hosting on Saturday Night Live, said his wife Olivia Munn, 44, came up with a way to keep him accountable.
When the Newsroom actress was about six months pregnant with their first child, Malcolm, who will turn three November 24, she staged a mini-intervention.
During their discussion, the couple decided she would give him random drug tests, a practice they have continued.
‘It’s like a relief,’ Mulaney told GQ in his Comedian of the Year interview.

‘I like to be able to not even have that be a question in her or anyone else’s mind.’ he explained.
‘Something about peeing in that cup is like, “I’m walking this walk.” It gives me confidence,’ he told the publication.
The comedian, who revealed the intervention that ended up in his going to rehab in his Emmy winning Baby J special on Netflix explained, ‘There was a time when I would have told you that I could not fly, sleep, or perform unless I had a Klonopin.’
‘I would have said, “It sucks because I don’t always want to take Klonopin and Xanax, but I have to.”‘
Munn and Mulaney had only been seeing each other a little while when she got pregnant with their first child.
‘It was like watching a man in a tsunami,’ she said.
‘I was watching someone newly sober, at the edge of a cliff, and I didn’t know him well enough to help him.’
The couple, who tied the knot over the July 4 weekend, also told the magazine they agreed to raise Malcolm as a couple only two months before he was born.
Mulaney and Munn welcomed their second child, a daughter named Méi on September 14 via surrogate.

Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023, and underwent a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy.
The surgery and treatment made it difficult of the Violet actress to take care of her family the way she was used to, but Mulaney stepped in for her she said on the Today show.
‘John is just the most amazing husband and father, and so we figure out a way to make it all work despite how tired I can be at all times.’

Mulaney has successfully completed one season of John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, and has been prepping for season two.
‘Doing the show really made me enjoy LA,’ he told GQ.
‘Something clicked where I was like, “Oh, this feels like the future.”
‘There’s so much going on: aerospace, shipping, agriculture, industry. This Hollywood thing is pretty tiny,’ he said.
