Delta plane passenger confronts seatmate over annoying in-flight faux pass

An irate plane passenger has shared the moment they confronted a fellow traveler for playing a film out loud on their phone.

In a post to Reddit on the Delta Airlines subthread, the user explained how their seatmate was watching something on ‘full volume’ for the entire time the plane was boarding.

‘It was so loud that people behind me were complaining. A lot of looks from neighbors but nothing,’ they shared.

After awhile, the passenger admitted they could not take it any longer and went to speak to the offending passenger after they failed to find a flight attendant.

‘After 15 minutes I finally got up and asked them if they could turn it down (may have said it in certain tone),’ they admitted.

The person’s partner was visibly displeased and the pair rolled their eyes but ended up turning it down.

‘I usually never say anything and put my headphones on. But this was so loud you could still hear it through the headphones,’ they complained.

‘Glad I said something because it’s been so peaceful,’ they added.

The interaction encouraged other users to share their own tales of annoying mid-flight interactions.

‘I flew a red eye on Sunday. After dinner service, I put on the eye mask and ear plugs, but still heard my neighbor watching videos on their phone. I asked them if they had headphones — of course they didn’t. They got the hint and stopped making noise,’ one person recalled.

‘People who use speakerphone or watch media without ear buds in public are the WORST. Zero concept of being considerate of other people. It’s completely mind boggling to me,’ someone else complained.

‘Yes, I’ve experienced this. They should be using headphones. How someone thinks that behavior is acceptable is beyond me… but my standards have been tested as of late,’ wrote another.

‘There’s always one on every flight. Good on you for saying something,’ praised another.

Some even shared the times people had ignored their headphones in other settings.

‘Not on an airplane, but in my gym a month or so back there was an elderly woman on the elliptical next to me with either a podcast or an audiobook blaring at full volume,’ a user shared.

They continued: ‘I took off my headphones and to ask her to turn it down and I realized it was actually about the value of silence and absence of noise.

‘The irony completely blew my mind.’

The etiquette surrounding flying is a well-spoken about – and divisive – topic.

Recently, flight attendants have revealed all the things a passenger should never do while flying.

Chris Price and Isold Wilberg Antonsdóttir listed going barefoot, changing babies’ diapers in their seats, leaving trash and being disorganized with baggage as the ultimate faux-pas passengers commit.
