College football coach and quarterback have to be separated in a shocking sideline scuffle

A scuffle on the sidelines captured the attention of fans when the University of Montana played Portland State University on Saturday.

Montana Grizzlies quarterback Logan Fife was seen screaming and cursing at his head coach, Bobby Hauck, with the altercation appearing on the verge of turning physical.

After a sputtering start to the game for both teams, Fife – who was substituted into the game following a poor showing from starting QB Keali’i Ah Yat – was able to lead the Grizzlies to a touchdown in a quick five-play drive.

Fife was able to scamper into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown gain to put Montana up 7-3.

After scoring, Fife celebrated by throwing the ball into the air – which Big Sky Conference officials immediately flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

As the quarterback walked down the sideline, a furious Hauck went up to Fife – screaming in his face, likely for his lack of discipline.

A helmeted Fife returned the aggression – pointing at Hauck and seemingly set to make contact with his coach.

But before either party decided to escalate the situation, an assistant coach came over and started pushing Fife away.

With his helmet now off, cameras caught Fife still screaming in the direction of his coach as his teammates tried calming him down.

Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and Montana was able to pull themselves together to get the win.

Reporters at the game even saw the coach and the quarterback reconciling after their brief dust-up.

Fife finished the day with four total touchdowns en route to a 28-17 victory as the tenth-best team at the FCS level improved to 8-3 on the season.

Next up for the Grizzlies are the in-state rival Montana State Bobcats next Saturday.
