MyGov website goes down, cutting off access to vital services for thousands of Aussies

Hundreds of Aussies are struggling to access vital government services, including Centrelink and Medicare due to a technical outage.

More than 1,000 outage reports were made to the DownDetector website as users were unable to access the MyGov government website from Monday afternoon.

The outage critically impacted login attempts while 35 per cent of reports suggested the app and website was also unavailable to those users.

‘Centrelink online account, Medicare online account, Child Support online account and the associated express plus apps are currently experiencing intermittent issues,’ one MyGov alert stated.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience.

The site also informed some Centrelink recipients that the service was ‘not currently available for view’.

Other customers on the site received an ‘access denied’ message.

A message told those trying to access Medicare ‘there has been a critical system error’.

Customers were left furious as critical online services were apparently unavailable on Monday

Frustrated Aussies took to social media to ask if they were the only people experiencing issues with the service.

‘I’m hitting an ‘access denied’ loop … Calling to resolve, but I assume also half the country is also calling at this very moment,’ one fumed.

‘All they can really do is assure you that it’s not just you, (that) things will be okay, and it’ll be fixed soon enough … some people have probably been legitimately terrified though because the message is like ‘ACCESS DENIED’.’

On X, MyGov users said outage left them in difficult situations.

‘Trying to report our income. MyGov not working, Express Plus Centrelink mobile app not working. Telephone reporting line screwing up,’ one said.

‘How are we supposed to report? We need our money tomorrow, we have no food among other things.’

Services Australia provided an update shortly after 8pm Monday.

‘We experienced issues affecting our services this afternoon. Most services have now been restored. We are aware some customers may still be experiencing issues accessing Medicare services,’ it wrote.

‘Most people were still able to report income, and payments are not affected.

‘If any customers are still having difficulty accessing our services, we encourage them to try again later.

‘If anyone is facing financial hardship as a result of not being able to report income today, please contact us tomorrow and our staff will assist you.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.’

Many Aussies reported they were still having issues accessing linked government services.

‘Still not working I get access denied,’ one woman said.

‘I can’t log into any service attached to MyGov.

Services Australia urged customers still experiencing issues to try again later.
