  • The college defensive back pled not guilty to the charges on Monday

Louisville football player Tayon Holloway has been arrested on domestic violence charges including strangulation, according to arrest records from the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Holloway is facing charges of fourth degree assault with a minor injury and first degree strangulation (both domestic violence related). The second charge is a felony.

The University announced in a statement that it was aware of Holloway’s arrest and has suspended him indefinitely from all team activities.

An arrest report obtained by Louisville Cardinals on SI said that a responding officer noticed a cut on the upper lip of Holloway’s girlfriend and puffiness in her eyes -‘commonly associated with crying – after being dispatched to an apartment around 9pm Sunday night.

Cops arrived at the residence after someone called 911 and hung up, with the occupants of the apartment at the time said to be uncooperative in the arrest report.

Holloway was arraigned on Monday and pled not guilty.

The report said that Holloway ‘became angry and physical’, threw his girlfriend onto the ground  and struck her in the face with a closed fist after she grabbed the marijuana he was preparing to smoke in his room.

The victim allegedly attempted to use a lamp to shield herself, but Holloway then put a pillow over her face for ‘what felt like 10 seconds to the victim,’ the report said.

Afterwards, Holloway allegedly began shoving the victim to leave the apartment, while a mirror that the victim was using to protect herself was also broken.

Holloway’s bond is $10,000, and a no contact order has been put in place

The redshirt sophomore committed a costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in his team’s loss against Stanford on Saturday, which set up the Cardinal to kick a game-winning field goal.
