Block favourites splash out $1.62million on new property in Sydney’s south as they embark on latest renovation project

Block fan favourites Rachel and Ryan Carr have snapped up a beautiful house in Sydney’s south.

The Blockheads splashed out $1.62million on the four-bedroom, one-bathroom pad in Sylvania, a waterside suburb of the Sutherland Shire, 25km from on the CBD.

Ryan and Rachel, who appeared on The Block in 2022, are well-known house flippers and recently sold a lavish renovation in nearby Oyster Bay for $2,725,000.

The new purchase last traded for $750,000 in 2010 reported The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday.

Inspired by the famed ‘Cape Cod’ style popular in the US, the two-storey home features a high-pitched roof and a large front porch.

Highlights include an expansive garden area, a pool with a paved deck, and an al fresco dining space.

There’s also a ‘day bed’ in the backyard, which is perfect for relaxing summer days.

The downstairs area, meanwhile, features a thoughtful open-plan layout that includes the main dining space, living area, and kitchen.

Located only 8kms from famed Cronulla Beach, the home is mere minutes from the shores of the Georges River, which is popular with boating enthusiasts.

Taking to Instagram earlier this month, Rachel and Ryan said they were planning to renovate their new purchase.

‘We fell in love with the uniqueness of this home; we were drawn in by its individuality.’

They continued: ‘Incredible renovations can be made on houses that provide a blank canvas… but this home is not that. We want to build on the individuality and modernise the uniqueness.’

It comes after Rachel and Ryan first came to fame during the 2022 season of The Block as replacements for quitters Elle Ferguson and her partner Joel Patfull.

The couple came in second during The Block’s auction in 2022 after selling their five-bedroom, three-bathroom renovation for $4,250,000, pocketing a $169,000 profit.

Rachel and Ryan, who have their own design company, R&R Design Co., converted their Oyster Bay property into a lavish resort-style pad after splashing $1.68million on the home in 2019.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property now boasts a saltwater pool, multiple entertainment areas and a resort-style cabana with kitchenette and outdoor shower.

‘This house has been so good to us. It’s the first home our family of five has known. And we know the next family is going to love it just as much as we have,’ the couple told Domain in July.

Rachel and Ryan have daughters Eveleigh, seven, and Mila, five, and a son, Tommy, three.
