A frisky couple having sex on a popular beach gave stunned families and beachgoers trying to escape the heat more than the ocean to look at.

The after-dark romp on the sand in full view of onlookers at Coogee Beach, in Sydney’s east, about 9pm on Sunday night was filmed by a shocked local, who shared the footage with Daily Mail Australia.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said the couple performed the lewd act as onlookers walked past and watched.

‘They literally thought no one would see them, how stupid are they?’ he said.

‘I can’t believe they did that right next to families walking by in a crowded area.

‘They were just going at it in plain sight.’

The footage showed a loved-up participant thrusting as their partner lay on the sand.

When they finished, more passers-by stopped and watched the pair get up and start to dress.

The footage then showed two people approach the couple to intervene.

They were seen speaking with the pair as the man wiped sand from his body while his pants were still down.

Incredibly, the local who filmed the lusty couple claimed the incident isn’t a one-off.

‘It’s not the first time I’ve seen this at Coogee Beach,’ he said.

The promenade at Coogee was still busy hours after Sydneysiders flocked to the beach to cool off as temperatures surged past 30C.

A NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday night that they are yet to receive any reports or complaints about the incident.

Having sex in public is obscene exposure and a criminal offence, which has a maximum penalty of six months in jail and or a $1,100 fine in NSW.

It appears Australians are becoming more brazen after footage emerged in April of a couple performing a sex act in broad daylight on a narrow shoal in the middle of the Maroochy River on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The woman, wearing swimmers, was captured performing oral sex on the man, who appeared to be wearing a green sweatshirt and black shorts.

And a few weeks earlier, footage emerged of a couple having sex inside the disabled toilets at Sunshine Plaza, also at Maroochydore.

No one was charged following the incident and the footage of the act, uploaded to Instagram, was later taken down.
