Snooker star Kyren Wilson admitted he went ‘crazy’ during his World Championship celebrations after getting a ‘taste for the beer’.

Wilson pocketed an eye-watering £500,000 after beating Jak Jones 18-14 in the final at the Crucible in May and being crowned the world champion for the first time.

The 32-year-old toasted his success in style, enjoying a number of holidays.

But after developing a hankering for alcohol during his downtime, Wilson found himself having to rein it in to prepare for events later in the year.

‘I had quite a lot of time off after winning the World Championship,’ he told the UK Championship magazine.

‘I felt quite drained and went on a number of holidays. My family have to suffer with me being away all year round in different areas of the world.

‘I’m the sort of person who needs structure in their life.

‘I’m quite an obsessive person so if I get a taste for something, I can go a bit crazy. I think I got a taste for the beer while I was celebrating.

‘It’s hard to get yourself up after reaching the pinnacle. I didn’t really know how to handle that, I didn’t really know where to look.

‘So it was time to rein it in and get back to practice, because this game won’t forgive you if you don’t treat it right.

‘If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail. I started putting the hard work in for the Xi’an Grand Prix [in August] and knuckled down.’

Wilson went on to win that tournament after beating Judd Trump 10-8 in the final.

He later revealed that the win gave him the ‘feel good factor’ and eased the pressure.

Wilson then also picked up the Northern Irish trophy with Trump again the runner-up.
