Peter John Nixon has been found not guilty of aiding his elderly father to take his own life.

The Brisbane Supreme Court jury took just over three hours to reach its verdict on Tuesday.

It rejected allegations by the prosecution that Mr Nixon gave his 88-year-old father a Coca-Cola based drink with prescription drugs in it on April 27, 2015, with the intention for him to drink it and end his life.

John Stephen Dixon died 12 days later in Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital.

Supporters of Mr Nixon breathed a sigh of relief and clapped after Justice Ann Lyons told him he was a ‘free man’.
