Powerball $100million jackpot numbers revealed

  • Third biggest Lotto prize in Australia this year

Millions of Aussies are scrambling to find their tickets in the hope that Christmas has come early in the form of a lifechanging windfall after the numbers for Thursday night’s Powerball $100million jackpot were revealed.

The monster jackpot was the third biggest Lotto prize in Australia this year, and the sixth largest in Australian lottery history.

The winning numbers for Powerball draw 1489 were 22, 10, 4, 31, 1, 26 and 9 were while the Powerball was 14.

One in two Australian adults were expected to buy a ticket for Thursday night’s draw. Entries closed one hour prior to the draw.

The jackpot grew to $100m after no division one winners in the last four weeks.

The odds of picking the seven numbers plus the Powerball may be 134million to 1, but that didn’t stop millions of Aussies from putting their money on the line.

Thursday night’s Powerball jackpot was the sixth largest in Australian lottery history

“This $100 million Powerball jackpot is the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in more than three months and we do anticipate a huge rush across the country,” Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said earlier.

In the last decade Aussies have pocketed $4.78billion in Powerball division one prize money across 176 wins.

NSW and Victoria lead Queensland in division one wins over that time span.

But the biggest individual lottery winner is a South Australian man who received an eye watering $150million in May.

A Brisbane woman was the last person to hit the lottery jackpot, pocketing a cheeky $100million in August.

In FY24, 19 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $758million in prize money.

Of the 19 division one winning entries, eight landed in NSW, six in Victoria, three in Queensland and one each in South Australia and Western Australia.

A Sydney nurse who won a $107million Powerball jackpot in 2019 previously shared advice for Australia’s next multi-millionaire.

‘If it’s possible and you can stand it, wake up the next morning and go to work. It gives you normality, and it allows the news to slowly sink in,’ she said.

‘It takes two weeks for the prize money to come through. I used those two weeks to engage a financial adviser who I really trusted.’

She added winners need to be careful about who they tell.

‘Only a handful of people know,’ she said of her win.

‘Take some time to think about who you might tell before you start sharing the news with your family and friends, and let the story get out of the headlines first.

‘I have a small group of very loyal friends, and you just don’t know how people will react, but I haven’t had any negative responses.

The next Powerball draw in on December 5.
