Jacob Elordi has sparked backlash from fans after stepping out with new facial hair.

The Australian actor, 27, debuted his bushy beard at the Marrakech International Film Festival on Friday.

After red carpet photos from the event hit social media, fans weren’t afraid to express their thoughts on Elordi’s new look.

‘Shave that!’ shrieked one fan on X, formerly Twitter, while another wrote, ‘TRIM IT TRIM IT TRIM IT!’

A third questioned, ‘How did his hair grow so long so quickly?’

Another wrote, ‘This better be for a movie role because WTF is that??!’

It’s unclear whether Elordi’s new look is for an acting role or not, but he does have several films on the horizon.

Elordi was recently revealed to have been cast in the upcoming adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic, Wuthering Heights.

He will take on the leading role of Heathcliff while Margot Robbie will portray the character of Catherine Earnshaw.

However, shortly after the casting of Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation was announced, fans slammed the decision.

Some took to social media over the ‘whitewashing’ of the leading role of Heathcliff – who is described as ‘dark skinned’ in the novel.

One wrote, ‘Guys I can ONLY assume that Emerald Fennell isn’t actually adapting Wuthering Heights…’

‘She’s just using it as inspiration and it’s loosely based on and the only similarities are the characters’ names and it’s set in this time period and it’s a different story entirely right?’

Another added, ‘Truly the worst casting I’ve ever perceived, I’m gagged by how Emerald Fennell is committed to never serving.’

One social media user penned, ‘So what we’ve learned is that emerald fennell has not read wuthering heights.’

Earlier this month, Jacob deactivated his Instagram, leaving fans speculating that he might be cast in the American Psycho remake.

In October, Italian director Luca Guadagnino announced he would be making a new take on the 1991 novel of the same name written by Bret Easton Ellis.

The book was previously adapted to film in 2000 by Mary Harron and starred Christian Bale in the lead role.

Soon after the new film was announced, the 27-year-old actor deleted his social media account, leading to rumours he may play the lead of Patrick Bateman.

Fans seemed quite taken with the idea of the Melbourne-born actor playing the yuppy serial killer.

‘He’s going to play the lead in American psycho isn’t he?’ wrote one fan on X.

Others chimed in to agree, with one writing, ‘that’s what I expect lol.’

‘Perfect role for him,’ said another.

Jacob’s Instagram account deactivation has been ‘surprising’ for many of his fans since he is often very active on the social media platform.

‘That’s surprising! Jacob Elordi has such a strong presence on social media. I wonder what prompted the decision,’ another fan on X commented.
