The woman killed in a violent altercation at a beachside retreat has been identified as the pair’s descent into chaos is revealed.
Charlyze Hayter, 19, was killed alongside Jackson Gilmour, 29, inside his Parson St home, in Rye, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in the early hours of Monday.
Mr Gilmour was asleep when Ms Hayter and an unknown man armed with a rifle allegedly broke into the property shortly after 4am.
Mr Gilmour and Ms Hayter were shot dead in the scuffle, while the second man fled the scene and remains on the run.
On Tuesday, Ms Hayter’s grandfather Bob said her death had rocked her entire family, but shattered her father.
‘I loved her very much,’ he told the Herald Sun. ‘This has upset the whole family.’
‘Charlie was a lovely girl, probably went down the wrong side of the tracks, but we were hoping for the best for her.
‘He’s absolutely devastated. It’s very difficult to talk to him (Charlyze’s father) about it. She was a very bright girl at school. We had high hopes for her.’

A long-time friend of Mr Gilmour told Daily Mail Australia he was still in shock over the death of Mr Gilmour – a carpenter and plumber – who grew up in the region.
On Tuesday he stood outside his old mate’s property as police towed away a Ford Ranger and Holden Club Sport.
‘I just can’t believe it. I was here yesterday too,’ he said.
The friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said Mr Gilmour’s housemate survived the shocking attack and called police.
It is understood she hid in the bathroom after waking to the sound of the man and woman smashing into the house.
The friend had been in contact with Mr Gilmour’s mum earlier in the day.
‘She can’t believe it. She’s just in denial,’ he said.
It is understood Mr Gilmour had become isolated from his old mates in the months before he died amid fears he had fallen in with a ‘bad crowd’.
‘(His mum) doesn’t know that,’ his friend said. ‘She thinks he’s just defended himself in a domestic violence situation.’
The friend said it would be news to him if Mr Gilmour had access to a firearm.
‘I didn’t know he had a f**king gun that’s for sure,’ he said.
His friend claimed Mr Gilmour appeared ‘different’ when he last saw him alive.
‘I saw him about a month or two ago. He was not the same,’ he said. ‘You don’t want to associate yourself with that stuff.’

The friend refused to speculate just what he believed Mr Gilmour had become involved with in his last days alive.
‘I don’t want to get myself in trouble,’ he said.
After breaking into the property, it is understood Ms Hayter beat Mr Gilmour with a baton and demanded he hand over his wallet and other personal belongings as she rummaged through his drawers.
Mr Gilmour then reportedly shot her and was himself shot by the male intruder.
Mr Gilmour and Ms Hayter were treated by paramedics, but both died at the scene.
Police, who are still working to hunt down the second man, say they believe the suspects were known to Mr Gilmour and that the incident was a ‘targeted’ attack.
Detectives remained at the crime scene on Tuesday, poring over the property for any pieces of evidence possibly left behind by his killer.
As officers cleared out a garage, two eerie pictures – one featuring a rabbit and another a skull – could be seen mounted on the wall.
Mr Gilmour, who was affectionately known as Jack to friends, had lived on the Mornington Peninsula for more than 10 years.

Property records show he had moved into the three-bedroom rental property in December last year.
Neighbours said there were frequently cars ‘coming and going’ from the property.
A relative told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday that Mr Gilmour’s family are ‘shocked’ and still seeking information on the chain of events leading up to his death.
Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said the second man is believed to have taken off in a vehicle and could still be armed.
‘We don’t know if there is still a firearm outstanding [and] we presume there was a getaway car,’ she told reporters on Monday.
‘We are seeking to find out the identity of the man and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in that area this morning who may have seen something.
‘If you have dashcam footage or CCTV please contact us or Crime Stoppers.’

Det Supt Stevenson said police are yet to determine what led the couple to break into the home, but one line of inquiry was whether drugs were involved.
She said police are still investigating how many people were at the home at the time and where the guns involved in the shooting came from.
Mr Gilmour was known to police, but Det Supt Stevenson would not confirm the nature of previous interactions.
Court records show Mr Gilmour had faced court several times this year for two separate matters.
One of the matters was before Dromana Magistrates Court just two weeks ago.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
