Police shut down road near to St Paul’s Cathedral

St Paul’s Station and several nearby roads have been sealed off as police deal with a package found in a nearby building. 

At least three police vehicles and several officers arrived at St Martin’s Le Grand at around 10.30am to inspect the item, which was initially thought to be suspicious. 

The cordons remain in place and police are working to clear the area, although the object has now been deemed safe. 

A City of London Police spokesman said: ‘We are currently in attendance in St Martin’s Le Grand (EC1) following a report of a suspicious package inside a building’

In addition to the closure of St Martin’s Le Grand, Newgate Street is now closed between Old Bailey and Cheapside, according to Tfl.

The British Transport Police confirmed St Paul’s Station is also closed.

A City of London Police spokesman said: ‘We are currently in attendance in St Martin’s Le Grand (EC1) following a report of a suspicious package inside a building. 

‘Called at 10.23am. Cordons are in place around the street and people are advised to avoid the surrounding area. More when we have it.’
