Intimate final post of young female aerialist killed alongside a tradie in mysterious late-night break-in is revealed – as new details emerge about her troubled past

The young woman shot dead in a mysterious late night home invasion had posted to social media just hours earlier, as new details of her battle with addiction emerge.

Charlyze Hayter, 19, was killed when she and an unknown man armed with a rifle broke into the Rye home of tradie Jackson Gilmour, 29, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in the early hours of Monday.

It’s understood that Ms Hayter beat the tradie with a baton and demanded he hand over his wallet and other personal belongings as she rummaged through his drawers. But he shot her before being shot in return by the unknown second intruder, who then fled and remains on the run.

Mr Gilmour and Ms Hayter were treated by paramedics, but both died at the scene.

In her final Instagram post uploaded on Sunday, Ms Hayter shared a mirror selfie in black lingerie showing off her prominent tattoos while smoking.

The post includes a short video of Ms Hayter tossing her hair back and puffing on a cigarette.

A third image from the post shows a corner of a room with a chalkboard mounted on a door covered in scrawled graffiti, while the walls were covered in permanent marker.

The post has since been flooded with tributes from friends.

Ms Hayter was once a talented aerialist, who performed circus-style acrobatics.

The teen showed off her skills on an separate Instagram account, which hasn’t been updated since December 2020.

Outside of the sport however, Ms Hayter appears to have had a troubled life battling addiction.

A lengthy Facebook post by her mother in 2021 celebrated her daughter’s 16th birthday but regretted not having the ‘right words to express just how amazing I think you are to keep on trying every day to overcome your personal challenges’.

‘It breaks my heart to see you struggle with what goes on in your head at times, I would would anything to make things easier for you,’ her mum wrote.

‘But from life’s difficulties we grow and learn and it shapes how we turn out.’

The post conclude: ‘I wouldn’t change one little bit of you. I am immensely proud of you and the sensitive, caring, empathetic. loving young adult you are growing into, you make my heart swell’.

The mum shared other posts that urged Charlyze to be ‘nicer to herself’ and tagged her in a Facebook ad for an ‘Addiction Kickboxing Muay Thai’ (Thai kickboxing) class held on the Mornington Peninsula.

Police investigating Monday’s deadly home invasion believe Ms Hayter and the other unknown man were known to Mr Gilmour and that it was a ‘targeted attack’.

Mr Gilmour, who was affectionately known as Jack to friends, had lived in the area for more than 10 years.

His female housemate survived the home invasion and called police.

It is understood she hid in the bathroom after waking to the sound of the man and woman smashing into the house.

Mr Gilmour reportedly had become isolated from his old mates in the months before he died amid fears he had fallen in with a ‘bad crowd’.

A long-time friend of Mr Gilmour told Daily Mail Australia he was still in shock over the death the carpenter and plumber who grew up in the region.

‘(His mum) doesn’t know that,’ a unnamed friend said.

‘She thinks he’s just defended himself in a domestic violence situation.’

The friend said it would be news to him if Mr Gilmour had access to a firearm.

‘I didn’t know he had a f**king gun, that’s for sure,’ he said.

His friend claimed Mr Gilmour appeared ‘different’ when he last saw him alive.

‘I saw him about a month or two ago. He was not the same,’ he said. ‘You don’t want to associate yourself with that stuff.’
