Golf star Michael Kim reveals eye-watering costs of playing on PGA Tour

PGA Tour star Michael Kim has lifted the lid on life at the top of golf, revealing he spent nearly $100,000 just to travel to tournaments in 2024.

The world No 151 has won once on the PGA Tour since joining golf’s elite back in 2016.

The 31-year-old has made career earnings of just over $7million – including $1.48m during the 2024 season.

Kim played in 30 tournaments over the past 12 months – making the cut in just over half – and he recently posted details of his outlay just to travel to and stay at events.

‘This is my spending on flights and hotels for 30 tournaments in 2024, Kim wrote alongside a screenshot of his $92,698.11 payment.

Remarkably, the majority of his travel was spent on economy class seats.

‘Zero dollars spent on private flights, and rarely business class. Can’t imagine some of the top guys’ costs,’ Kim added, before joking: ‘At least I’m racking up some CC (credit cart) points!’

He added: ‘Last (year) was a touch higher due to me going to the Open Championship and playing 32 events.’

Kim most recently finished tied for 11th in the RSM Classic in Georgia, when he shot 12-under-par over his four rounds.

His best result came at the Shriners Children’s Open in October, when he finished in a tie for fifth. He did not feature in any of the four major championships.

By comparison, world No 1 Scottie Scheffler took his earnings for 2024 to $29,228,357 with $1m victory at the Hero World Challenge.
