One toot in the grave! Police find £10million worth of cocaine hidden inside two COFFINS

Dutch police stumbled across a staggering £10million worth of cocaine hidden inside two coffins.

Cops discovered the 250kg of cocaine during a bust near Numansdorp, in the South Holland Province of the Netherlands on December 13.

A 30-year-old suspect from Rotterdam, France, was arrested following the shocking discovery.

The Dutch Police National Expertise and Operations Unit said in a statement the following day that the suspect ‘was driving a van with French licence plates on the A29 near Numansdorp and displayed suspicious (driving) behaviour’.

When they stopped the driver and asked for an explanation, he claimed he was transporting the two coffins which he told police contained bodies.

‘However, the documents did not check out,’ cops added.

‘Our colleagues then drove to a funeral home for verification. There, it was discovered that the coffins contained sports bags with more than 250kg of cocaine, with a street value of 13million euros (£10million).

‘The man has been arrested, and the drugs have been destroyed,’ it confirmed.

It comes after a £40million stash of cocaine hidden on an inflatable boat off the West Sussex coast was uncovered by investigators in October.

Six men were arrested over a half-tonne haul discovered by the National Crime Agency on Medmerry Beach, near Selsey.

A 39-year-old was arrested at Luton Airport, a 39-year-old was arrested in Liverpool, and a man, 38, was arrested in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

Police also snapped up a 45-year-old in Bournemouth, Dorset, a 41-year-old was arrested in Poole, and a man, aged 36, was also arrested in Tilbury in Essex.

A month before, a fishing boat carrying approximately one tonne of cocaine was intercepted off the Cornish coast in a ‘huge loss’ for an organised crime group, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

NCA officers arrested four men and seized the drugs after the boat was stopped at sea near Newquay in September.

The four men were arrested on suspicion of importing class A drugs.

Images supplied by the NCA showed 17 brick-shaped packages in brown wrapping and two in dark wrapping, most with the label ‘pezx’.

And in August, two drug smugglers leapt into the sea in a failed bid to escape the authorities after being caught with £37million of cocaine in their boat.

Bruce Knowles, 55, and Ferhat Gumrukguoglu, 31, were intercepted by Border Force near East Benacre Broads in Suffolk with 350kg of cocaine in the hull of their boat.

Border Force Deputy Director Sally Hawkyard said: ‘Our Border Force Officers played a pivotal role in detecting and seizing millions of pounds worth of cocaine, which ensured that these two men were brought to justice.

‘We remain committed to stopping illegal drugs from entering the country, where they ruin lives and fuel organised criminal gangs.

‘Border Force will continue to work tirelessly to keep the public safe and our borders secure.’
