If you’re looking to upgrade your old vacuum cleaner, a smart new model has hit the Australian market – and it may be exactly what you’re after.

Shark has launched the PowerDetect Clean & Empty System vacuum, featuring dirt-detecting intelligence, auto-empty dock and multi-directional cleaning.

What sets it apart from other brands is its unique reverse function.

While standard vacuums only offer suction in forward motion and move debris when pulled backwards, the PowerDetect features reverse clean technology.

Picking up debris in both forward and reverse directions for faster cleaning, the model’s DuoClean Detect nozzle features two brush rolls designed for all floors and ultra-powerful hair pickup.

Touted as Shark’s most powerful cordless vacuum, the high-tech gadget seals away tiny particles, debris, allergens and odors after every clean – leaving no dust clouds behind.

The four intelligent technologies can detect hidden dirt, edges and corners, different floor types and direction, then automatically boost power to increase cleaning efficiency by up to 75 per cent.

The vacuum is undoubtedly a luxury item, but shoppers are saying it’s ‘worth the investment’, with many praising it as a ‘top-tier’ cordless model.

The model has an auto-empty dock that automatically charges and empties the vacuum after every clean, reducing dust exposure by 1,000 times compared to traditional emptying.

One of the key features of the vacuum is its ability to manoeuvre in hard-to-reach areas under furniture, thanks to the model’s Multiflex technology, which allows you to bend the wand so you no longer have to crouch.

With up to 70 minutes of runtime, it’s the brand’s longest yet, enough to deep-clean the entire home.

The vacuum has received more than 125 rave reviews, boasting an average rating of 4.7 stars out of 5.

‘This is a fabulous vacuum… It picks up pet hair easily and boosts suction when it detects a large amount of debris. The most fun part is docking the vacuum and engaging the auto-empty feature. A little surprising at first, but very satisfying and easy to empty. Best vacuum I have ever owned, definitely worth the investment,’ one said.

‘Hands down – this is by far the most incredible vacuum I’ve ever used, and I can say that with confidence because I’m constantly challenged to keep up with my shaggy dog who is a ‘heavy shedder’ – translation, fur everywhere. This vacuum is so efficient and easy to operate. I appreciate that it’s much lighter than almost any other vacuum I’ve used, without compromising on suction power or capacity. I especially love that it works like a fine tooth comb – gets into crevices that might be missed by older models. I also appreciate that it empties automatically. I feel like this is the definition of a smart vacuum,’ another raved.

‘I recently upgraded from my Dyson to the Shark Cordless PowerDetect Clean & Empty System Vacuum, and I’m seriously impressed. The suction power is amazing, automatically adjusting to handle both carpets and hardwood. Battery life is solid, covering my whole apartment on a single charge. It’s lightweight and easy to maneuver. Noise level is lower than expected for the power it packs. Overall, a great replacement that makes cleaning way more efficient,’ one added.

As the number one floorcare brand in the US, Shark has teamed up with TEDTalks astrophysicist Dr Sara Webb to show Aussies the right way to vacuum, according to science.

‘Most Australians are stuck in a one-way cleaning routine, unknowingly missing out on a deeper clean, that science can empower,’ Dr Webb explained.

‘But Shark’s new PowerDetect Clean & Empty System, with its unique Reverse Clean Technology, challenges this outdated approach by doubling efficiency and capturing dirt in both forward and reverse motions.

‘It’s physics in action.’

Delivering superior debris removal, the PowerDetectTM Clean & Empty System is designed to transform home cleaning by harnessing physics for optimal results.

‘My research mostly focuses on detecting cosmic events, much like the technology in the PowerDetect is used to detect dirt and optimise cleaning,’ Dr Webb said.

‘The same forces that shape the universe are at play in everyday objects – like friction and motion – so understanding these forces and why things move in the first place can help us reimagine routines, even as simple as vacuuming.’
