Tyson Fury insists he will tone down showboating antics in Oleksandr Usyk rematch – despite believing he ‘had control for 80%’ of first fight and found it ‘easy’

  • Fury is looking for revenge against Usyk in heavyweight battle on Saturday
  • It didn’t take long for him to begin showboating during their first fight in May
  • He also spoke on why he doesn’t feel the need to change any of his tactics

Tyson Fury has insisted he will reduce his showboating against Oleksandr Usyk in the duo’s highly-anticipated rematch this weekend.

The two heavyweights clashed in one of the biggest fights of all time in May, when the Ukrainian became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world as his arm was raised via split decision.

Fury is therefore on the hunt for revenge this weekend and has arrived in Saudi Arabia for fight week, with Usyk also present.

He does, in the eyes of many, go into the fight as the underdog, looking to avenge the first defeat of his own career.

The Gypsy King claims to have rewatched their first bout ‘a hundred times’ and will be making some adjustments in a bid to cause Usyk’s first defeat of his career in their Riyadh showdown.

Fury has maintained that he was actually the victor from the first fight, and claims that he wasn’t focused – something he is keen to put right this time.

‘I need to be more focused this time and not do as much showboating, he said via GB News. ‘That’s how easy it was for me and you can get complacent.

‘I don’t believe the showboating cost me the fight but I need to be more focused this time and not do as much.

‘I didn’t feel as if I could have knocked him out at any point. I hurt him a few times to the body and with head shots but I didn’t feel I was going to take him out.’

‘It was my best performance in the last five years, probably more.’

Fury, who is known to showboat, didn’t take long to start his antics in the first fight as he began to try and tease his opponent in the opening rounds.

He was in his corner, and pulled some faces as if to suggest he was excited by the occasion.

But, despite insisting he will be focusing more, the 36-year-old will not be making too many adjustments.

‘Why would I change something when I had control of the fight for maybe 80 per cent of it?’ he asked.  ‘I’m landing on him at will, head and body, lead right uppercuts, left hooks, right hooks to the body, doubles at times.’

‘He ain’t going to outbox me on the back foot. It’s not possible. So he has to come forward and make a fight of it.’
