Fans go wild for Bill Belichick’s first post on X

Bill Belichick has coached football for 50 years, won six Super Bowls with the Patriots and recently shook up the college football world by taking the North Carolina job –  but it wasn’t until Monday that he posted on X (formerly Twitter) for the first time.

The 72-year-old, who also launched an Instagram account in September, ingratiated himself to the Tar Heel faithful with his debut post on X.

‘Beat Dook’ my first words as a boy are my first words on X! Go Heels!!,’ said Belichick, whose father, Steve, was an assistant for the UNC’s football team for two seasons.

Belichick capped off the post by writing three hashtags: ‘#GoHeels’, ‘#ChapelBill’ and ‘#CarolinaFootball.’

The post, which went online at 1:18pm, has been liked 1.7k times at the time of writing, and has been viewed over 240k on the platform.

‘Yeah, you’re gonna do well on here,’ one fan said alongside laughing-crying emojis.

‘What a time to be alive,’ another wrote.

‘The [goat] has arrived,’ a third added.

Belichick so far has 10.6k followers on the platform, and follows 16 accounts, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson.

He also follows several members of his UNC staff, including GM Michael Lombardi and run-game coordinator/tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens.

As he shared on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Belichick is currently on the road in North Carolina recruiting high school players.

He was seen in the car with his son, Stephen, a former Patriots assistant and University of Washington defensive coordinator who is expected to fill that latter role at UNC, according to multiple reports.

Belichick currently follows two recruits on X: five-star Zavion Griffin-Haynes and three-star Gavin Waddell.

He previously revealed that he had been using his Instagram account to help him lure players to UNC.

‘Yeah, definitely recruiting — a lot of guys going into the portal seems like every day as team’s seasons conclude with the bowl games and then the playoffs… a lot of people contacting us wanting to come to Carolina,’ he said on the McAfee show.

‘My Instagram account’s been busy. Scrolling through that, I never thought I’d be saying that, but here I am joining the 21st century. So that’s been good.’
