Beloved father and Kym Liebig, 58, identified as victim of tragic four-vehicle crash in Adelaide

A much-loved dad has been named as the man who died in a four-vehicle crash in Adelaide on Tuesday.

Motorbike racer Kym Liebig, 58, was riding his black Suzuki home on South Road at Hindmarsh in the city’s inner suburbs when he was hit.

A white Holden Commodore travelling south allegedly crashed through fencing on the median strip, 7News reported.

The Commodore allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the road and into the path of the motorbike and two other vehicles at around 3.50pm on Tuesday.

Mr Liebig came off the bike, witnesses said, and was then reportedly run over by a Mazda ute.

The emergency services tied to revive him when they arrived, but were unable to save him.

His distraught wife Prudence posted an online tribute saying ‘whilst coming home to me, my darling Kym was killed. He is gone, I am broken.’

Mr Liebig was an experienced rider who was well-known in South Australian motorcycle circles.

He had previously made videos promoting road safety for riders.

The South Australian Road Racing Community said in a statement that ‘We are heartbroken by the loss of Kym’.

‘He was more than just a talented racer, he was someone who brought warmth and generosity to the paddock and was always known for having one of the biggest hearts.’

Another online tribute told Ms Liebig they were ‘beyond devastated for you and your beautiful family. Life is beyond cruel.’

A witness to the crash said the sound ‘was like a bomb going off’.

The Commodore driver, a 44-year-old man from Park Holme, 8km south-west of Adelaide’s CBD, was arrested at the scene by Major Crash officers.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and given bail.

The man is due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 19.
