Jamie Redknapp has claimed he would not enjoy playing for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side, suggesting the head coach’s approach would ‘drive me insane’.

Redknapp featured as part of Sky Sport’s line-up of pundits for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Tottenham came into the semi-final amid a dreadful run of form, winning just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Postecoglou’s side have been hampered by a series of injuries, but he has faced criticism sticking with his attacking approach to matches despite the absentees.

When asked whether they would like to play under Postecoglou, fellow pundits Michael Dawson and Izzy Christiansen admitted they would have enjoyed the manager’s approach.

‘I had Ledley beside me so I’d have been alright,’ Dawson said. Adding in Postecoglou’s side he ‘would have needed Micky van de Ven alongside me.’

Christiansen responded ‘Absolutely yep.’

However, Redknapp, who played for Tottenham between 2002 and 2005, admitted he the Australian’s perceived unwillingness to adapt to circumstances would ‘drive me insane’.

‘I don’t think I’d like this. It would drive me insane,’ Redknapp said.

‘There has to be another side to the game, it is not all about attacking free flowing football and trying to blow teams away.

‘I would want my manager to say we don’t have our best team at the moment, let’s find a way to get a win.

‘It is exciting and get why the fans enjoy it. But I am not sure I would enjoy it because at times you get exposed.’

Former Tottenham defender Dawson, noted after Redknapp’s comments, that Postecoglou had shown signs of adapting with his line-up against Liverpool.

‘We talk about him changing philosophy, that was never going to happen,’ Dawson said.

‘But can he be adaptable, well the three in the midfield today in [Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Yves] Bissouma and [Lucas] Bergvall is a slight change.’

Spurs were, however, forced into an early change after Bentancur was forced off injured in the opening stages of the match.
