A Colorado state lawmaker was arrested on Tuesday after she was discovered carrying a loaded firearm through Denver International Airport.
State Rep. Lori Saine, R-Firestone, was found carrying the weapon around 1.45pm after a TSA agent screening bags through an X-ray machine spotted the loaded 9mm handgun, according to NBC affiliate KUSA.
A TSA statement claims that Saine ‘knowingly brought the handgun into the North Screening Check point.’
According to court documents obtained by KUSA, four bullets were found inside magazine but none in chamber.
Saine was arrested for felony gun possession at a public transportation facility and was taken to the Downtown Detention Center in Denver after requesting a lawyer.
If found guilty, the Class 6 felony carries a sentence between one and 18 months in prison and a fine of between $1,000 and $100,000.

During a court hearing Wednesday morning, Saine’s defense attorney, Randy Corporon, was granted a request by Denver County Court Judge Andrea Eddy to have his client remain behind a glass partition.
Other arrestees present inside the courtroom were made to stand at the podium outside of the partition.
Saine was given a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and was released from custody.
Corporon told KUSA that the state lawmaker had merely forgotten the gun had been inside her bag.
Since 2013, at least 14 people have been charged with carrying a firearm through a public transportation facility in Colorado, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
