An airline passenger has shared video of a baggage handler tossing suitcases onto a loading belt, sparking debate over whether luggage should be treated with more care.

The passenger filmed through the plane window at Melbourne Airport on Sunday, showing baggage handlers loading luggage onto a conveyer belt into the aircraft’s cargo hold.

The video showed a worker lifting suitcases from a cart and tossing them onto the belt, with one slipping from his hand and falling to the ground.

‘What the f*** Melbourne airport,’ the caption read on the TikTok video.

Some commenters on the video were outraged by the worker’s seemingly careless approach.

‘Have a bit of respect for people’s belongings,’ one wrote.

‘It’s taking more effort for him to throw them than it would to carefully place them,’ another said.

One commenter said it would have been worrying for all passengers looking through the window to see their possessions treated so recklessly.

‘I’ve worked baggage at an airport, we were told to be respectful and knew we were in clear sight of the passengers, we weren’t that dumb to throw them around like that,’ another said.

‘To all the people saying they don’t earn enough to care – then don’t work there,’ one added.

However not all commenters were condemnatory, noting how physically demanding and time consuming it would be to carefully place each bag onto the belt.

‘I’d like to see you stand there and lift all those bags that are over probably 25kg each day, all day, every day,’ one wrote.

‘He isn’t throwing the bags hard or carelessly,’ another said.

Another suggested the video poster should try filling the shoes of the worker and ‘try putting hundreds of bags a day on a conveyor’.

Daily Mail Australia contacted subcontractor Swissport and Melbourne Airport for comment.
