Ryanair is launching new flights from Manchester to Toulouse which are set to kick off from the end of March.

The budget carrier will fly to the southern French city on Mondays and Thursdays between March to October.

Prices currently start from €14.99/£14.99 one way on the Ryanair website.

And holidaymakers are in for a treat. Toulouse is set to be one of this year’s most exciting destinations after Lonely Planet named it the ‘best city in the world’ to visit in 2025.

Known as ‘The Pink City’ due to its rose-coloured architecture, Toulouse was founded by the Romans and sits close to the Spanish border.

Lonely Planet says: ‘Often referred to as “Paris in Miniature”, Toulouse is a maze-like city overflowing with art galleries in repurposed industrial spaces, excellent food and scenic river and canal banks.’

The travel guide recommends timing your visit to coincide with the 2025 reopening of the Musee de Augustins, ‘a 14th-century cloistered convent’ that’s a ‘beacon of Toulouse’s art scene’.

And that’s not the only arty attraction in this ‘dynamic, cultural’ city.

The Fondation Bemberg Toulouse is a major art hub with a large collection of works by Pierre Bonnard and Canaletto.

Meanwhile, Les Abattoirs is a contemporary art gallery located in a former abattoir on the city’s riverbank.

Tourists can also visit the The Basilica of Saint-Sernin, an 11th century church that’s one of the biggest Romanesque buildings in the world.

Foodies will have plenty to entertain them in Toulouse with Lonely Planet naming several ‘local specialties’ worth trying.

It says: ‘Food lovers will be delighted by local specialities: duck breast and confit, Toulouse sausage, cassoulet, cheeses and the famous Toulouse violet.’

Toulouse violets are sugared violet petals that are so beloved they’ve become one of the city’s symbols.

The city’s tourism board recommends trying a ‘Toulouse Kir’ – champagne served with a sugared violet.

These culinary treats can be found at Toulouse’s Marche Victor Hugo, a historic covered market, or at Les Halles de La Cartoucherie, a brand new venue in a converted warehouse.

Just outside the city centre, fans of aviation should add the Aeroscopia Museum to their bucket list.

Toulouse was where the first aircraft was built in 1918 and where the Concorde made its first test flight in 1969.

And plane fanatics can go behind-the-scenes and see the Airbus production line on a tour of the factory.
