Aly Raisman steps out for stroll in Miami

On Thursday, former Team USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar was sentenced to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges. 

And one day later, one of his abuse victims, Olympian gymnast Aly Raisman stepped out for a walk.

The  23-year-old athlete had her headphones on while taking a stroll in Miami Beach, Florida on Friday.

On Thursday, Aly penned a Victim Impact Statement that she posted on The Players Tribune.

The judge denied her and the other survivors to read the statement in court so she shared it on the website.  

Aly titled the piece This Is Survival.

Aly explained: ‘I’ve chosen to open up about my experience because I want change. It is very hard and uncomfortable to talk about.’

Adding: ‘I have learned that everyone copes differently. There’s no map that shows you the path to healing.’

She continued: ‘Sexual abuse isn’t just in the moment. It is forever. Healing is forever.’

The athlete then posted the full statement that she didn’t have the opportunity to read in court.

She spoke about how years of abuse had affected her emotionally, mentally and physically; the Olympian appealed to the judge to impose the maximum sentence on the 54-year-old former doctor.

Last month, she publicly revealed that she had been sexually abused by Nassar.

Aly said she was 15 when she was first treated by him and had no understanding that what he was doing was sexual abuse.

‘Every time I share my story, it feels like the first time. I relive years of trauma. But this is part of my truth and part of my healing. This is survival,’ she penned in her statement.
