• The first golf major of the season gets underway at Augusta National next week
  • The Masters has long been lauded for his eye-wateringly low prices for food
  • Concession prices remain low this year, with sandwiches as cheap as £1.15

Augusta National’s famously low concession prices are commensurate with the quality of the food on offer, according to one sports analyst.

The Masters – golf’s first major of the year – gets underway next week in Georgia and for a lucky few with the chance to see the action up close, a world of delicacies also awaits.

For several years, Augusta has gained the reputation as having perhaps the lowest concession prices in all of professional sports and this year, despite rising inflation and market volatility, punters again get their value for money.

The famed Egg Salad and Pimento Cheese sandwiches remain on the menu at their special price of $1.50 (£1.15), while the most expensive items on the menu stand at just $3.00 (£2.30). At that price point, you’ll find three kinds of sandwiches – the chicken salad, the Masters Club, and the Ham & Cheese on rye.

Not one to senselessly join in on the love-in, sports business analyst Darren Rovell, responded to a post hailing the affordability at the golf course and suggested the items are lacking in quality.

‘Spoiler Alert. It tastes as good as the price,’ he wrote on X. ‘Not a single item outside Augusta National would get any attention on its merits alone. There, I said it.’

The post Rovell responded to showed a collection of some 12 food and drink items which total just $30.00 (£23) at the venue.

His comment did not find many cosigners on the social media platform, with various accounts insisting that they prefer affordability over ‘gourmet’ level cooking. Though, Rovell did raise the stark contrast in prices of food and tickets.

Getting through the gates at Augusta currently span the range of the thousands of dollars – $1,061 (£812) for the Monday practice round up to nearly $2,300 (£1,762) for Friday’s second round.

This week, fans got a glimpse at the menu that will be on offer at The Masters during the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The selection appeared to be a pared down menu of what will be on offer next week, though several popular items remained.

At $3.00 (£2.30) this year is the Georgia Peach Ice Cream Sandwich – up from $2.50 (£1.92) at The Masters the year prior.

A price increase also appears to have come for the humble muffin – also going up 50 cents from $1.50 (£1.15) to $2.00 (£1.53) this year.

The cheapest edible item on the menu is a banana at $1.25 (96p), while the cheapest overall item is Advil or Aleve at just 75 cents (60p).

All drinks on the ANWA menu are $2.00 (£1.53) – including fizzy drinks, lemonade, coffee, water, and sports drinks.
