‘We do come across them quite a bit unfortunately,’ she said.

‘They often stick their head in looking for water. The strange thing about this one was that it had a mouse in its mouth as well, which is quite odd, and when I cut it free it swallowed it.

‘Normally they are so distressed that they can’t swallow anything but this one was still quite keen to eat the mouse, she said.

Photos of the snake in distress were shared on the Reptile Rescue Facebook page.

‘We humans need to stop littering,’ the post read.

‘All too often we come across snakes with their heads stuck in cans that have been discarded by lazy uncaring people.’

‘Copperheads are usually very shy, easily stressed and hard to get eating – this guy however seems very relaxed and completely recovered from his ordeal which is great to see.’
