• NRL 360 host was stunned by suggestion from Brent Read
  • Journalist declared Roosters shouldn’t rush back Sam Walker
  • ‘Resting’ Walker for 2025 season was dismissed by Anasta

By ANDREW PRENTICE FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA

NRL 360 host Braith Anasta slammed colleague Brent Read on live television after the sports journalist boldly suggested the Roosters could rest halfback Sam Walker for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Read doesn’t believe Trent Robinson’s men will finish anywhere near the NRL top eight, prompting the News Corp scribe to state the Tricolours shouldn’t rush back their playmaker following his ACL injury last September.

‘If their season is over come July-August, why would you risk him? Why don’t you give him the rest of the year off, get him right for 2026?’ Read told viewers on Monday.

The left-field idea left Anasta dumbfounded, who bluntly responded: ‘that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.’

Read then re-emphasised his view the Roosters won’t be final contenders, and that his idea had merit.

Anasta responded by stating: ‘if Walker was available, you play him.’

Veteran journalist Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield then chimed in with: ‘The Roosters have a responsibility to the game to put their best side on the park.

‘[At the moment] they can’t score a try from a kick. Sam Walker is a million dollar player – to suggest they [Roosters] should rest him is outrageously silly.’

It comes after Walker labelled his ACL injury ‘the worst two minutes of pain in my life’ last year.

‘The knee went on me and I felt a ‘pop’,’ Walker told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘I saw the footage of nobody around me, and I knew it was the force of me landing on the ground that had caused this feeling like something had exploded inside my knee.

‘The first two minutes was the worst pain I’ve ever felt. I was in complete agony….I was calling for the green whistle.’

Meanwhile, Robinson has swung the axe ahead of round six, with halfback Chad Townsend dropped after a poor start to the season.

Local junior Hugo Savala has been handed the number seven jersey ahead of the clash against the Broncos this Friday at Suncorp Stadium.
