A child has been killed and an elderly woman arrested after a car allegedly lost control on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

Emergency services were called to Presidents Avenue in Ocean Grove, 20km southeast of Geelong, about 4:50pm on Friday after reports that a car had lost control and collided with a child on a footpath.

The four-year-old died at the scene and police arrested a 71-year-old woman from Ocean Grove.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will interview the woman and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
