Queen Mary of Denmark reached out to fix her daughter’s hair in a sweet moment captured on film – as Princess Isabella prepared to celebrate her 18th birthday.

Princess Isabella of Denmark began the first of her two birthday celebrations on Friday, ahead of her turning 18 on April 21 – which is Easter Monday.

The 17-year-old joined her parents Queen Mary and King Frederik X at Aarhus City Hall in Denmark on Friday, in a chic powder blue suit.

But the wind pushed her hair out of place for a brief moment as the family greeted well wishers who had gathered outside.

Her mother stepped in quickly to fix it, placing the stray piece of hair back in its correct place, eliciting a grin of thanks from her eldest daughter.

The sweet moment was captured on film, with royal fans praising the two women for ‘still smiling’. Another said: ‘What a sweet moment between Mary and Isabella.’

Isabella will enjoy two official celebrations before she turns 18 on April 21, the first of which took place on Friday. The other is due to take place on April 15.

But yesterday, Isabella wore a stunning baby blue ensemble with a loose fitting blazer and wide-leg trousers for her birthday outing.

The royal wore her thick glossy tresses in two a half-up do and sported a soft neutral makeup look.

The second born in Queen Mary’s brood, Isabella was pictured alongside her parents and other members of the family including her twin siblings, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, both 14.

The teenager was seen beaming alongside her mother, Queen Mary, who looked chic in a cream trench coat stylish pair of stilettos.

Meanwhile, her father looked sharp in a grey suit and baby blue shirt to match his daughter’s spring inspired ensemble.

The family were greeted by well-wishers in the square, with many eagerly grabbing pictures of the moment and reaching to shake hands with Isabella.

After greeting members of the public in the square, the family was treated to a back-to-back line-up of musical performances, dancers and even a fashion show.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the upcoming birthday would be a rather expensive celebration.

The first event, held yesterday, was a show stopping gala that cost upwards of 290,000 Norwegian Kroner, which is equivalent to about £20,000.

The budget details were revealed by the Aarhus municipality, who shared the party expense list on the public record.

The guest list numbered over 200 people, with Princess Isabella and the Danish royal family attending alongside 100 representatives from Danish youth groups and an additional 50 local young people.

According to a statement from the royal household, the birthday event at Aarhus City Hall, was ‘a tribute to the city’s many young talents in the creative fields such as music, sport, cuisine and design’.

Most of the event’s whopping budget was spent on entertainment, including actors and performers appearing in the production. The next significant cost is the menu and catering, ensuring that guests can enjoy a tasty spread of food and beverages.

Because this is a party for royalty, there’s also the consideration of security, with a portion of the event budget allotted to venue safety.

But one detail about the Aarhus City Hall event was kept under wraps was a surprise birthday present for the teen princess.

According to the itemised budget, the royal is set to receive a mystery gift worth 10,000 kroner, equivalent to around £714.

The second official event on the celebration schedule is ‘a birthday performance on The Old Stage of The Royal Danish Theatre’ in Copenhagen.

The Princess and the royal family have invited over 1,000 young people from across Denmark to join them in watching a special performance.

The official statement says: ‘The Royal House of Denmark, in cooperation with The Royal Danish Theatre, invites the young generation to entertaining, exciting and varied performing arts that are both classical and modern.’

The milestone birthday will also see Princess Isabella receive a major honour from her father King Frederik, known as the Order of the Elephant.

Although she technically isn’t meant to receive the Order of the Elephant until she turns 18, it is expected that Isabella will wear the insignia for the first time at the Royal Danish Theatre – a few days shy of her actual birthday.

Ahead of all these celebratory events, the royal household have already released new birthday portraits of Princess Isabella.

The royal’s 18th birthday pictures were taken by photographer Steen Evald in Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg.

Princess Isabella is also expected to enjoy a private birthday celebration with family and loved ones on her actual birthday.
