Jean-Claude Blanc has stepped down as a director of Manchester United but will continue to play an active role in the running of the club.

Blanc is chief executive of Ineos Sport and has been involved at United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion investment in the club, including filling in as interim CEO at Old Trafford.

Along with Sir Dave Brailsford, he has been involved in many of the changes overseen by United’s co-owners and the transformation of the Carrington training complex.

United confirmed on Monday that the Frenchman is stepping down from his position as director but will continue to play a valuable role as chief of international football relations and special advisor to the board.

It’s understood Blanc will focus on United’s international relationships with FIFA, UEFA and the European Club Association on which he holds a board position, as well as in the UEFA -ECA joint venture.

A club statement read: ‘Jean-Claude Blanc has stepped down from his position as a director of Manchester United Football Club, however he will continue to have an active role in the management of the club in his new position as chief of international football relations and special advisor to the board.’
