Aston Villa have held talks with Norway midfield prospect Sverre Nypan as they look to head off competition from Arsenal and Girona.

The 18-year old from Rosenborg held extensive negotiations with interested parties in January and was the guest of compatriot, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for their game against Chelsea.

Despite offers from Arsenal, Nypan and his father Arne decided the best course of action was to stay in Norway until the summer.

Villa have since revived discussions and have made progress in convincing the teenager that his Premier League first team pathway may be best served at Villa Park.

The midfielder has made 62 senior appearances for Rosenborg so far in his career, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.

Nypan struck eight times from midfield in the Norwegian top flight last season.
