A fisherman has drowned after being swept out to sea by giant waves.

Emergency services were called to Endeavor Drive at the Wollongong Harbour, on NSW’s South Coast, about 6.15am on Friday.

Officers rushed to the scene following reports a man had been pulled from the water unconscious.

The 58-year-old mam could not be revived and died at the scene.

It’s believed the man had been fishing on a rock wall when large waves pulled him into the swell.

Investigations into the incident are underway and any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are urged to come forward.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
