A pilot has suffered multiple injuries after a helicopter crashed and burst into flames while flying over K’gari off the Queensland coast.

Emergency services responded to the crash about 12.35pm on Friday with a LifeFlight helicopter seen landing on the beach.

The chopper crashed near Moon Point, a popular camping site on the island.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the pilot suffered face, hip, and leg injuries in the crash but was able to get out of the helicopter before emergency crews arrived.

He was the only person onboard and was expected to be taken the mainland for more treatment.

More to come.
