They narrowly missed out on winning to Jess Harding and Sammy Root, who split shortly after the ITV2 series ended.

Viewers were stunned that they had missed out on the £50,000 prize at the time, with many claiming they should have won.

The following year, Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan became the first black couple to win the series, with Whitney saying it was ‘overdue’ and a triumphant moment.

She said at the time: ‘It’s a moment that needs to be celebrated, it has gone down in history, as it rightfully should and I just feel like it’s overdue.

‘There has been so many black women that go on reality TV shows and they are not given their accolades.

‘I think Samira was the first black girl to go on Love Island but now there has been Yewande, Kaz, Rachel, Lianne, Indiyah, Catherine, there’s been me, there’s been so many of us but we have never been given our flowers.

‘So, it’s not about Mimii winning, this is about her representing so many of us that have come before her as well as the black girls that are looking up to her.’
