Move over salted caramel – this Easter, Britain is going nuts for pistachio.

The nut has been cultivated for about 9,000 years. Not only is it a source of fibre and protein, it is also reputed to be an aphrodisiac – which may be why it is known as the ‘happy nut’ in China.

Pistachio Easter eggs are all the rage.

A 330g Venchi Pistachio Chocoviar Egg from Selfridges costs £52.99, but those on a modest budget can try a 260g Lindt Lindor Pistachio Easter Egg for £10 from Tesco with a Clubcard.

Most pistachios come from California – and America’s position as the largest player in the $6billion global market for the nut could be challenged if Donald Trump reimposes higher tariffs and importers then respond in kind.
