Troubled former NFL star Justin Blackmon reeked of alcohol, was wearing wet clothes and couldn’t fit in the back of a police car when he was arrested for public intoxication at the weekend, according to reports.

Fans are concerned for Blackmon, who was arrested in Payne County, Oklahoma, early Saturday morning, after a mugshot showed him looking worryingly different over a decade since his NFL career was derailed by off-field issues.

Now TMZ Sports has revealed more distressing details about his arrest, which came when police responded to a call regarding a ‘larger black male’ laying on the ground at 1:32am Saturday.

When they arrived on the scene the ex-Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, 35, had roamed into a campus building, before they quickly made contact with him.

Officers observed that he was unsteady on his feet and smelling strongly of alcohol while in wet clothes. Blackmon, who was said to be ‘slurred and confusing’, repeatedly them he was trying to walk home to ‘Stillwater’.

When told that was a town and not an address, he reportedly admitted to not living there while saying: ‘You got me.’

Two sets of handcuffs were used to arrest Blackmon ‘due to his body size and the girth of his wrists’, before cops were unable to fit him into the back seat of the police car.

A larger vehicle was therefore required to take him to jail for booking and processing.

According to the police report, the 6ft 2in man was weighing 230lbs at the time of his arrest – which is roughly 20lbs heavier than he weighed during his football days.

Blackmon was a college standout for Oklahoma State before he was selected by the Jaguars with the fifth overall pick at the 2012 NFL Draft.

He recorded 111 catches for 1,782 yards and a nation-leading 20 touchdowns in 2010, before following it with 122 catches for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns in a breathtaking junior year.

The standout picked up back-to-back Biletnikoff awards and All-America honors during his illustrious college career.

Yet after an impressive rookie season in the NFL, which saw him register 64 catches for 865 receiving yards and five touchdowns, the ex-Cowboys star’s career was brought crashing down by various run-ins with the law.

He was first arrested for driving under the influence in June 2012, before earning a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy 10 months later.

In November 2013 Blackmon was suspended indefinitely for the same offense, which came eight months before he was arrested during a traffic stop for possession of marijuana.

He was also sentenced to a year in prison following another DUI arrest in 2015, which was ultimately suspended pending a year’s probation.

Blackmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame last year after his memorable stint with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He will also be inducted into Oklahoma State’s Ring of Honor this November.
