Donald Trump has accused Volodymyr Zelensky of ‘harming peace negotiations’ with Russia and said ‘the man with no cards to play should get it done’.

The US President slammed Zelensky over his refusal to formally cede Crimea to Russia.

‘It’s inflammatory statements like Zelensky’s that makes it so difficult to settle this War,’ Trump said in a post on Truth Social, and adding that ‘We are very close to a deal.’

Trump vowed to end this ‘complete and total mess’ and reiterated his stance that the war between Russia and Ukraine would never have started if he was in the White House rather than Joe Biden.

Zelensky told a press conference earlier today in Kyiv Ukraine would ‘not legally recognise the occupation of Crimea’.

Trump said the Ukrainian President’s statement was ‘very harmful’ to peace talks and that ‘if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired?’.

The Kremlin took control of Crimea when it illegally annexed the peninsula in 2014.

‘He [Zelensky] has nothing to boast about!,’ Trump wrote.

‘The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever.’
