Another door has closed on a potential home for Aaron Rodgers the Minnesota Vikings trading for a quarterback to backup JJ McCarthy.

They’ve recruited Sam Howell from the Seattle Seahawks to flesh out their quarterback room.

Rodgers was linked – and believed to be keen – to play for the Vikings but the organization were always set to stick with McCarthy for 2025.

It would mean that as it stands, the only realistic options for Rodgers are the Pittsburgh Steelers or retirement at age 41.

Seattle sent Howell and its fifth-round pick (No. 172 overall) to Minnesota for the Vikings´ fifth-round selection (No. 142).

Seattle then used the No. 142 pick on Notre Dame defensive tackle Rylie Mills. The Seahawks also drafted QB Jalen Milroe on Friday evening.

The 41-year-old Rodgers has been pondering his next move after being released by the New York Jets, with new head coach Aaron Glenn opting to bring in Justin Fields.

Rodgers finally resurfaced last week, lifting the lid on his personal life and his future in the NFL.

‘I’m in a different phase of my life, I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship, I have personal commitments I’ve made… and people in my inner circle battling difficult stuff,’ Rodgers said. ‘To make a commitment to a team is a big thing.’

But Daily Mail reported Friday that it is understood the Steelers anticipate adding Rodgers to their roster in the coming weeks.

The veteran quarterback was believed to be reluctant to announce a decision on his future while the eyes of the football world were on Green Bay, where he began his NFL career two decades ago.

Had the draft been held anywhere else, Mail Sport understands, Rodgers’ future may well have already been resolved.
