From preseason Heisman hopeful to QB13, former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a slide that wouldn’t have made sense to college football fans a few months ago.

After a season at Texas where he struggled at times but finished with a College Football Playoff appearance, Ewers turned down a reported $8m NIL offer to transfer from the Longhorns and play another season at the collegiate level.

Instead, he entered the draft process and was one of the final picks of the proceedings – being selected 231st overall by the Miami Dolphins – and will earn significantly less.

He was the final quarterback selected in what was considered a pretty weak class.

But while it may have been expected that he’d be behind No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and even Shedeur Sanders, the fact that Ewers was chosen behind the likes of Florida’s Graham Mertz, North Dakota State’s Cam Miller, and Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke was a bit surprising.

In spite of this, Ewers got some support from girlfriend Madelyn Barnes, who posted a warning to the rest of the league on her Instagram story.

‘Miami baby!!,’ Barnes posted. ‘Time to prove ’em all wrong.’

Barnes made a separate post to her account, saying, ‘So incredibly proud and overjoyed!!

‘Quinn, you are so deserving of this and a whole lot more! You’re the most driven, dedicated, and genuine man both on and off the field. I’m so excited for this journey and to watch you live out your dreams. GO DOLPHINS!!’

Per Barnes’ Instagram timeline, she and Ewers have been dating for about two years. She attended the rival University of Oklahoma.

During the draft, Ewers went viral for watching the process from his living room which was filled with taxidermied animals, likely from family hunting trips.

Ewers played three years at Texas after transferring from Ohio State. He tossed for over 9,100 yards with 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions across his career.

Miami’s quarterback room will likely feature Ewers as a third-stringer behind starter Tua Tagovailoa and recent acquisition Zach Wilson.
