A British seaside town on Kent’s coast has been compared to Italy’s world-famous Amalfi coast.

Ramsgate, a harbour town, is just a two hour train ride from London making it a far cheaper alternative to a holiday abroad.

And according to KentOnline, the seaside town could make someone ‘believe’ you’re on holiday on the ‘Amalfi coast’.

Ramsgate Main Sands is the seaside town’s best-rated beach which is easily accessible from the town.

It’s also right next to the Ramsgate Royal Harbour and Marina, another of the town’s top attractions.

The picturesque spot is the only Royal Harbour in the country and was granted its royal status in 1821 by King George IV.

One tourist ‘Jo M’ wrote on Tripadvisor: ‘Had no idea Ramsgate was such a beautiful town. Harbour really stunning, enjoyed our visit very much.’

Meanwhile, the town’s pretty Boating Pool is perhaps its most European-esque spot with palm trees surrounding a lake used for boat rides.

And if you want gorgeous coastal views, head to the town’s coastal path to walk the 40 minute route from Ramsgate to Broadstairs.

Of course, Ramsgate’s weather might not deliver the sun that’s almost guaranteed in Amalfi.

But if a downpour does threaten the day, Ramsgate has a host of non-weather dependent activities.

The town’s best-rated attraction on Tripadvisor is the Ramsgate Tunnels, a network of underground tunnels which were used as shelter from air raids during WWII.

Tourists can tour the tunnels to learn about how the intricate network was built and hear stories about life underground.

On a rainy day, visitors can also head to the Micro Museum, which has a collection of vintage computers and video games.

And Ramsgate even holds a quirky world record.

The town is home to the world’s biggest Wetherspoons pub.

The whopping Royal Victoria Pavilion spans 11,000 sq feet/ 1,021 sq m.

Like many seaside towns, Ramsgate is also known for its seafood, particularly oysters, cockles and mussels, so make sure to stop at one of its harbourside restaurants.
