Wrexham are reportedly set to travel Down Under this summer as the football club secured their third promotion in as many seasons under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Rumours had been bubbling away over the past month that the football club, who were promoted to the Championship this weekend, were being touted to be on their way down to Victoria to take on Melbourne Victory in the off-season.

Channel 9 reporter Tom Morris had revealed that the club were contemplating playing a match in Melbourne at the beginning of April, having also discussed the move on the Wrexham podcast, RobRyanRed.

According to The Daily Telegraph, that pre-season tour is now gathering more steam, with the football club also now reportedly set to travel to Sydney in July.

After being bought by the American actors back in 2020 for $4million, the club’s fairy tale rise up the football league has captured the hearts of fans around the world.

The team will now play in the second tier of the pyramid next season, just one rung below the Premier League, but prior to that, will take on Sydney FC twice during the summer.

Matches in Sydney could be played at the Allianz Stadium and Accor Stadium, with reports suggesting the Championship club could play Sydney FC

There is also anticipation that the club could travel to New Zealand as part of the tour.

The matches against Sydney could be played out at the Allianz Stadium and the Accor Stadium – with The Daily Telegraph adding Destination NSW has been negotiating deals to bring the footy club to Australian soil.

McElhenney, who created and developed the US hit TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Deadpool actor Reynolds are, according to the outlet, also set to be interested in joining the tour Down Under.

Birmingham City, who are owned by NFL great Tom Brady, finished top of League One and will be promoted back to the Championship alongside Wrexham.

It comes as Wrexham and Birmingham rivalled each other for promotion this season, with the latter losing just three games this season, and are currently 16 points clear at the top of the table.

Reynolds and McElhenney are now set to release series four of their much-acclaimed series, with Brady also set to feature in the new show.

The trailer for the new series in fact opens with Reynolds speaking about the seven-time Super Bowl winner.

‘Birmingham FC, they have Tom Brady. He’s not playing, thank God… is he allowed to play?’ he said.

McElhenney and Reynolds were pictured this weekend lapping up the celebrations this weekend at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham after they sealed promotion with a 3-0 victory against Charlton.
