Max Homa and Wyndham Clark have revealed the perils of looking at their phones too much during this week at the PGA Championship.

The American Ryder Cup heroes took part in a fan Q+A at T-Mobile’s VIP ‘Club Magenta’, which overlooks the 10th green at Quail Hollow this week.

Both men are desperate for victories this week – Homa is trying to turn around his form and Clark is chasing the second major championship of his career – and they both vowed that they’ll be limiting their screen time while in the heat of battle.

When asked about his relationship with his phone at a major, Clark told Barstool Sports personality Riggs: ‘Definitely more on the tuning out part.

‘What people don’t think about is you have a lot of friends that might be in the area saying “Hey, can I get tickets? Want to do dinner?” and distracting you.

‘On social media there are people talking good and bad about you. I want to get off of that.

Homa revealed he only calls his coach, caddy or wife Lacey after a round Clark said he'll be ignoring requests for tickets and dinner dates

Max Homa and Wyndham Clark have insisted they’ll be avoiding their phones this week

‘So I kind of try to stay off the radar a little bit. I mainly look at kind of my team and the people that are closest to me to make sure that, obviously, it’s communicating, right?

‘But outside of that I get back and we’ll play games, we’ll watch TV, read books and try to get away from that.’

Homa added: ‘Yeah, very similar. We were just talking and mostly if I’m on my phone, I’m typically texting my coach or caddy, my wife or playing some kind of New York Times crossword.

‘That’s my relationship with my phone in a major week. As Wyndham said, you get a lot of people texting you, random people telling you good luck who you haven’t talked to in so long.

‘So yeah, just trying to almost zone out when you’re off the golf course and then when you’re here, tuck the phone away a little.’

Clark, who announced he currently has 1,100 unread messages in his phone, also revealed the most famous contact in his phone is Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg.

He’ll be hoping more people flood his inbox with congratulatory messages on Sunday night if he can win this week.

Clark, the 2023 US Open champion, has missed the cut at three of the last five majors and hasn’t won any event since the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

As for Homa, he is yet to win one of golf’s biggest prizes despite being a six-time champion on the PGA Tour.

He recently parted ways with his longtime caddy Joe Greiner after a run of poor form but comes into the PGA Championship on the back of a T30 finish at the Truist Championship.

Clark begins his week at 1:36pm ET on Thursday alongside Hideki Matsuyama and Tom Kim.

Homa, meanwhile, is playing with fellow American Lucas Glover and LIV Golf star Joaquin Niemann.
