A woman is fighting for life after she was allegedly assaulted during a domestic violence incident inside a Sydney unit.

The 47-year-old woman was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after she was allegedly assaulted inside a Redfern apartment just after 4.30pm, NSW Police said.

Emergency services were called to Morehead Street after reports of an alleged assault.

The woman was found with head injuries and was treated by paramedics and a doctor before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 30-year-old man, who police said was known to the woman, was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station.

‘Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident,’ NSW Police said in a statement.
