TV cameras caught Rory McIlroy’s frustrated reaction to the news that play at the PGA Championship was being delayed on Saturday morning because of dangerous weather.

McIlroy and Xander Schauffele were two of the big names due to go out early in the morning but organizers were forced to suspend play because of rain and stormy conditions around Quail Hollow.

Organizers later announced that the action would resume at 11:43am but players will now be in groups of three and start their rounds on both the first and tenth holes to ensure the round can be completed.

The news that play was going to be suspended came just as Masters champion McIlroy was about to tee off.

McIlroy, who made the cut on the number and is nine shots back of halfway leader Jhonattan Vegas, was on the bridge headed toward the first tee for his 8:25am ET tee time when the horn sounded to signal play was suspended.

The Northern Irishman was not too pleased as he slumped his head, turned around and grinned in disbelief while appearing to say ‘f*** off’.

The opening twosome of Max Greyserman and Sam Burns had yet to hit their tee shots.

McIlroy and Schauffele will now tee off with Chris Kirk at 1:38pm – over five hours later than their original start time.

About an hour earlier, practice at the year’s second major was suspended due to dangerous weather and those outside were instructed to seek shelter.

Fortunately, that was lifted at 9:24am and players were allowed to return to the driving range and practice area.

There is a severe thunderstorm watch in the area until 12:00pm ET while scattered showers are expected to exit the area around 10:00am and give way to partly cloudy skies in the afternoon.
