A glum-looking Man United squad were spotted leaving their Bilbao hotel on Thursday morning following their Europa League final loss the night before.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils fell to defeat against Tottenham in their clash at the Estadio de San Mames – after Brennan Johnson’s scrappy goal in the first-half. 

It was a disappointing evening for United, who many had expected to triumph over Ange Postecoglou’s struggling Spurs in the showpiece event.

However, on Thursday morning, it was evident that the defeat was still weighing heavy on the minds of United’s stars as they made their way onto the team bus. 

United boss Amorim looked downbeat as he lead his side out of the hotel and wheeled his suitcase alongside him, past fans and photographers.

The Portuguese coach did manage to offer a wink at the camera as he walked past.

The likes of Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Andre Onana were also seen leaving the hotel and heading onto the team bus as they mulled over their defeat. 

After suffering the defeat, defender Luke Shaw admitted United’s players must consider leaving as he issued an apology to fans after their final defeat.

The stalwart said the squad must take responsibility for the failure and not shy away from what has been the club’s worst season since their relegation in 1973-74. 

‘We’re very sorry for what they have had to go through this season. Like I said, it’s been nowhere near good enough, and I can only apologise for that,’ Shaw told BBC Sport. 

‘I think we have to look at the positives and the only positive is that we can only go up from here. 

‘We’re rock bottom now and we have to find the way to drag ourselves back. 

‘I can say 100 per cent right now that [Ruben Amorim] is the right man. I know results have not been good at all.

Tottenham, meanwhile, showed off their trophy to fans as they left their own hotel

‘I’ve been here for a long time now and I’ve been through different managers but Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I’m sure I can talk on behalf of all the players, Ruben is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back where this club should be.’

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s stars were also seen leaving their hotel on Thursday morning and were in far brighter spirits than their Manchester counterparts.

Ange Postecoglou, with a big grin across his face, waved to supporters as he made his way onto the first-team coach.

Members of the Spurs staff brought out the Europa League trophy to show the fans who had made the trip to cheer on the players on Thursday morning.
