Arizona Cardinals star Sean Murphy-Bunting was placed by the team on the reserve/non-football injury list on Thursday, ending his 2025.

The Cardinals did not reveal any specific reason or ailment that will cause Murphy-Bunting to miss next season with three months to go until it starts.

Murphy-Bunting has been with the Cardinals since the beginning of last season, making 15 starts for the team at cornerback.

Murphy-Bunting spent the 2023 season with the Tennessee Titans after four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl in 2021.

The 27-year-old showed no signs of being injured on his social media, with his latest post being of him bowling six weeks ago.

The only possible sign of this coming from Arizona was the team drafting Will Johnson and Denzel Burke at cornerback last month.

It is unclear when the Cardinals knew that Murphy-Bunting would be unavailable for the 2025 season.

Murphy-Bunting was a second-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2019 and only left the team after losing his starting cornerback role.

The Central Michigan alumnus signed a three-year, $25.5million contract with the Cardinals last year.

That security is likely what is standing in the way of Murphy-Bunting being outright released.

With Murphy-Bunting out for the year, Budda Baker’s role as the secondary’s leader will become even more important.
