Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley had six months of therapy

Daisy Ridley has admitted to having therapy sessions in order to cope with her meteoric rise to fame.

The Star Wars actress boldly revealed that after filming wrapped on The Last Jedi, she enlisted the help of a therapist for six months, admitting that it presented her with an opportunity to ‘step away’ from the famous franchise.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the 25-year-old confessed: ‘I have always suffered with anxiety since I was a teenager, I should have done it way before, but I suddenly realised how good it is to talk about this stuff.’

The British star revealed that her sessions enabled her to come to terms with how her life was changing after the major sci-fi flick was released, subsequently making Daisy a household name overnight.

She continued: ‘Going through the whole thing with the same group of people is wonderful, but also occasionally it’s a really good to step away [from the cast and crew of Star Wars] and actually really process what went on, and how I felt in it all.’

The interview also saw Daisy open up about her decision to quit social media after falling victim to cruel trolls.

The Murder On The Orient Express star said she was left ‘shell shocked’ after she posted a snap of herself at the Teen Choice Awards and was instantly targeted by some of her Instagram followers over her size.

It was a particularly tough pill to swallow given that Daisy had always been candid about her battle with endometriosis and acne.

She said: ‘[After the Teen Choice Awards post] suddenly people were not very nice. I had put on weight after finishing filming, and I thought, why do I have to be slender to have the views I have?’

In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Daisy slammed social media for being damaging to teenager’s mental health.

‘I don’t do social anymore. I came off it last September and I will never get back on.

‘The more I read about teenage anxiety, the more I think it’s highly unhealthy for people’s mental health.’
