Anthony Albanese has revealed he and fiancée Jodie Haydon have been forced to make a drastic change to their plans for a honeymoon.

The Prime Minister confirmed on Tuesday that he will have to cut his honeymoon short after finally deciding on a timeframe for his upcoming wedding.

‘We have now had an opportunity to discuss, and we have a few options between now and the end of the year,’ Albanese told ABC Radio.

‘But we’re waiting as well to look at the calendar. I deliberately did not get ahead of myself, so from May 3 and beyond, there was a blank diary.’

The Prime Minister revealed he and Haydon had originally planned to take a two-month honeymoon if Labor had lost the May 3 election.

However victory in the poll meant the couple would have a much shorter trip of a ‘couple of weeks’ after their nuptials.

Albanese and Haydon met in 2020, a year after the breakdown of his marriage to former Labor MP and NSW deputy premier Carmel Tebbutt.

The Prime Minister has previously said he was left ’emotionally bruised’ when his almost 20-year marriage came to an end.

Earlier this year, Albanese revealed he and his fiancée considered eloping when parliament adjourned in February.

He told Brisbane radio he thought about getting married ‘really quietly’ on the one-year anniversary of his 2024 Valentine’s Day proposal.

Albanese said the wedding would take place in the second half of the year and shared a sweet detail that has already been decided on for the big day.

‘The only thing that’s finalised is our ring bearer. And that, of course, is Toto the wonder dog,’ he told B105.

Albanese previously revealed he had asked for the support of his 24-year-old son Nathan, who he shares with ex-wife Tebbutt, prior to popping the question.

‘I respect him and have a good relationship with him, and with his mother. So I asked him to think about it… and he was supportive,’ he told Australian Women’s Weekly.

‘He wants me to be happy, and Nathan and Jodie have a really nice relationship as well.’

Haydon is an executive for Teachers Mutual Bank, which she said has been very supportive of her high-profile role as Australia’s de facto ‘First Lady’.

The couple met at a work conference back in 2020 when Albanese was the opposition leader to the Scott Morrison government.

He had asked if there were any South Sydney NRL fans in the audience, at which Haydon yelled out the team’s catch cry of ‘up the Rabbitohs’.

‘We met up for a drink… it’s a nice relationship,’ he said of their first date.

The following year Albanese was seriously injured in a car crash when a Range Rover crossed onto the wrong side of the road and smashed into his car in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.

Haydon got a call and raced to the scene to see the car written off, but Albanese alive.

‘And I knew then that, yeah, I love him,’ she previously said.
