Fashion retailer Wish.com has sparked outrage for showing photographs that feature slender women wearing tights that are designed for fuller figures.
The advert images are believed to have originally been shot to promote anti-tear tights but have been re-used to show just how roomy Wish.com’s plus-size hosiery is.
Online retailer Wish.com has come under fire for using these images to sell plus-sized tights. Some of the photos show slender models fitting their whole bodies into the XL hosiery
Offensive: The images – and the context in which they’re being used – have prompted disdain from many, with some branding the company ‘tone deaf’ for using the photos
The photos – including this one showing a model fitting into one leg – were thought to have originally been shot to promote an anti-tear tight but appear to have been re-used to sell plus-sized hosiery
In one image, a model is seen pulling up a pair of transparent tights up to her nose showing off her own slender physique and also how big the tights are, something which many have found offensive.
Another photograph sees a model pour herself into just one leg of the XL hosiery, again highlighting how roomy they are.
On social media, people have slammed the decision to use the photos as ‘the worst idea ever’ with a tide of anger growing against the company.
Organic tampon brand @fredaspeaks slammed the move, saying: ‘Who thought this would be a good idea? No plus-size models available? #bodyshaming’
‘Body-shaming’: On social media, many slammed the company for not using a plus-sized model in the ads
@SaimaMohsin added: ‘Who on earth thought of this?! Oh look. You are so much bigger than this thin model she would fit into one of your legs?!!! So offensive.’
@TattedLisaBibby fired off: ‘Wish.com ‘s ad of plus sized tights stretched over slim sized models entire bodies’ disgusting! I will never again look at their website, much less purchase anything from them!! This is horrendous!’
@Jem758 added: ‘Wish.com might as well not make the tights, because I doubt plus-sized people would buy from them after this.’
The adverts have yet to be removed and MailOnline has contact Wish.com for a comment.
